What is the subject objective?
The curriculum objective of Media is to gain the knowledge and skills to develop and create different forms of media. Exposing our pupils to the range of different media outlets there are and how they can use ICT and technology in a range of creative ways.
The study of multimedia aims to develop pupils understanding of how Media has become an essential part of our lives, how media can influence the public opinion. As well as developing our pupils’ skills in ICT, teamwork and critical thinking skills.
How is the subject delivered?
Pupils’ complete units from the WJEC Entry Pathways Creative Media Qualification. There are no formal exams, but students’ complete coursework and submit evidence to show their learning. The coursework can be in the following forms:
- Posters
- Videos
- Web design
- Survey and questionnaires
- Interviews
- Mind maps
- Case Studies
Impact and accreditation
Pupils will not only build on their ICT and technology skills but will earn credits towards an Lv2 or Lv3 qualification in Creative Media.
Reading across the curriculum
Part of Media includes engaging with different texts, narratives and formats. Pupils will build on key vocabulary and terms related to media and will have opportunities to build on their reading and writing skills through the multimedia curriculum.
Linking with our vision
Pupils get exposure to what Media looks like, they explore and engage with a range of different media skills, opening up their options and ideas of skills they may want to pursue after Redwood when they attend college. It also builds on their communication and ICT skills which will support them with everyday life tasks.
